Info Post
Residents of northern Queensland, Australia, woke on Thursday morning to destruction wrought by Cyclone Yasi, the biggest storm to ever hit the region.

Small towns at the epicentre of the Category 5 storm, including Cardwell, Mission Beach and Tully, were left to pick up the pieces after Yasi destroyed homes and pounded the coast with a storm surge.

The major northern centres of Cairns and Townsville avoided any major damage but more than 118,000 properties lost power.

And last night, the Bureau of Meteorology issued a flash flood warning for a massive stretch of coastline from Mossman, north of Cairns, to Ayr.

Yasi cut a ferocious path through western Queensland yesterday in areas which have never had a cyclone.

Mount Isa was the final community in Yasi's crosshairs last night, although the system was last night expected to weaken to a tropical low before reaching the town.
